A Bethesda web glitch revealed everyone’s support tickets, including personal info

Fallout

During the incident, it appears that the user name, name, contact information, and proof of purchase information provided by a limited number of customers on their support ticket requests may have been viewable by other customers accessing the customer support website for a limited time, but no full credit card numbers or passwords were disclosed.

According to Bethesda's dev team, the update is meant to "address a service issue", but whilst the game is planned to be down for just two hours, it could very well take longer. They would also be dispatching them free of charge to the unhappy customers.

Unfortunately, it turns out that the problems were far from over. Earlier today, gamers began reporting that they had been mistakenly given access to part of the Fallout 76 Support website. As in all of them - every single support claim filed by every single user of the site, complete with names, addresses, and other personally identifiable information. The accidental leak was so bad that customers were apparently able to edit and resolve support tickets freely, though it's unknown if anybody actually did.

The thread exploded in popularity and comments, more than a few of which corroborated Jessiepie's claim, and the reports expectedly made their way to the official Bethesda forums. However, to say that this was a serious breach is to put it mildly. Apart from annoyances with the game's performance, content and overall systems, fans who spent $295.95 locally (or $US200 overseas) to buy the collector's edition have copped an extra serve after receiving a nylon bag instead of the military-style canvas bag that was originally advertised. This allowed anyone to open and close any tickets and view sensitive customer information, such as home address, credit card information and e-mail addresses.
