Roger Stone Invokes 5th Amendment in Senate Judiciary Docs Request

Roger Stone arrives to testify before the House Intelligence Committee on Capitol Hill in Washington Sept. 26 2017

"Stone has communicated over the past three years, and the "documents concerning" imprecision of the requests".

Longtime GOP Political operative Roger Stone is resisting Senate Democrats' request for documents for documents and testimony, citing his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination, his attorney said in a letter released Tuesday.

Explaining his response, Smith said that Stone was "disappointed" his testimony before the House Intelligence Committee in September was kept private instead of being made public. "Stone will not produce the documents requested by you in your capacity as Ranking Minority Member of the Judiciary Committee", Stone's defense attorneys wrote to Sen.

The letter invokes his testimony to the House Intel Committee before saying he won't "confirm the existence of, or produce the documents of the request, for the objective of being used in secret proceedings".

Roger Stone pleads the Fifth to Senate inquiry

Special Counsel Robert Mueller has been eyeing Stone as part of his ongoing investigation into Russian rannygazoo related to the 2016 election. Stone has denied the allegations.

Mueller's team wants to know whether Stone knew ahead of time that WikiLeaks was planning to dump thousands of emails hacked from Hillary Clinton's campaign. Stone's approach earned him a supportive tweet from Trump this week, when the president praised Stone's "guts" for refusing to testify against him.

The Washington Post spoke to several law experts who suggested the tweet could be a clear indication of witness tampering and obstruction of justice.
