Woman's cruise ship death may be murder

The 52-year-old woman, described only as a "female guest" on the Royal Princess from the US, died under unclear circumstances.

A 52-year-old American woman aboard a Princess Cruises ship sailing in the Caribbean died Tuesday in what authorities are treating as a possible murder case, according to several news outlets in the region.

The incident happened aboard the Royal Princess ship which left Port Everglades last Friday for a seven-day cruise through the Caribbean.

The woman crashed into a lifeboat on a lower deck and was declared dead at the scene, the cruise company told USA Today in a statement. That's where police boarded the ship after the incident was reported. "We are cooperating fully with the investigating authorities, including the FBI", Princess Cruises noted in a statement.

Princess Cruises confirmed the woman's death on Tuesday onboard the ship which was travelling to Aruba from Curacao, off the coast of Venezuela, yet said the cause of death was "not yet known". In a statement to CBS News, Princess Cruises said, "we are deeply saddened by this incident and offer our honest condolences to the family and those affected". The ship is scheduled to return to Fort Lauderdale on Saturday.
