Accused mail bomber Sayoc to face new charges

Image Update Pipe Bomb Suspect Charged with Using Weapon of Mass Destruction Image #5

Authorities said he sent improvised explosive devices to numerous Democrats, critics of Trump and CNN. The indictment covers packages mailed to victims in the southern district of NY.

The federal charges against Cesar Sayoc "include the use of a weapon of mass destruction, interstate transportation of explosives, illegal mailing of explosives and threatening interstate communications", ABC News reports.

The charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison.

And prosecutors believe the evidence of his alleged involvement abounds.

Sayoc now stands accused of mailing 16 explosive devices, despite law enforcement officials previously alleging that he sent 11 critics of the U.S. president a total of 13 different devices. A van linked to Sayoc has also emerged, showing heavy anti-Hillary stickers and pro-Trump stickers plastered all over its surface. One image showed the president standing on a tank with a rifle, complete with United States flag and fireworks.

Investigators checked out Sayoc's laptop found in his van, finding a list of addresses that included those that matched those on the bomb packages hit list. Officials say that Sayoc also used his phone to conduct a range of misspelled internet searches, like "hilary Clinton hime address" and "address kamila harrias".

The couple was spotted at Mumbai airport, twinning in white and making everyone go "awww" over their glowing faces. The couple will also reportedly host a reception in Bengaluru and Mumbai for their family and friends.

Sayoc was arrested in connection to the mail bombs in Plantation, Florida, on October 26th.

Friday's indictment concerns the five devices that were sent in New York-to the Clintons, Soros, Robert De Niro, former CIA Director John Brennan, and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper.

No one was injured, as the bombs failed to detonate. Thanks to the diligent and determined work of our law enforcement partners here and across the country, it took just five days to identify and apprehend Sayoc and end his reign of terror. "He now faces justice from a nation of laws", Berman said.

Sayoc had been scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday for a hearing on the earlier charges. He was held without bail.

The case was randomly assigned to U.S. District Judge Jed S. Rakoff.

Sayoc's attorney, federal defender Sarah Baumgartel, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
