Uganda, at high risk for Ebola, starts vaccinating medics

Mueller investigation looms over Trump after election

Uganda will begin vaccinating frontline health workers against Ebola next week as the threat increases of the deadly virus spreading from neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo, the health minister said Friday. "Uganda has a very porous border with the DR Congo, so we have a lot of refugees and other people crossing through from where there is violence".

After entering the body, it kills cells, making some of them explode, it wrecks the immune system, causes heavy bleeding inside the body, and damages nearly every organ, though it is scary, but it's also rare.

In DRC till date, this season, around 300 cases of Ebola have been suspected with 265 confirmed cases of the disease.

The DRC's health ministry said Thursday it had recorded 285 possible Ebola cases in the highly-restive northeastern region of North Kivu, which is home to a clutch of armed groups. It's caused 151 death so far, the World Health Organization said. The World Health Organization (WHO) report says that till date the infection has killed 151 individuals in the country. More than 26,000 people in the DRC have been inoculated in a "ring vaccination" policy in which those who have been in contact with an Ebola patient are vaccinated. "Scientists believe such invaluable lives would have been saved had a vaccine been in existence then".

Uganda was affected before in 2000 and 2001 where the infection killed 261 and infected 574 individuals. Some of these combinations include ZMapp, REGN-EB3, the antiviral drug remdesivir and single-antibody drug called mAb114.

The vaccine is only used under "compassionate use" although it is not commercially licensed.
