Trump clashes with 'rude, terrible' CNN reporter

CNN's Jim Acosta and President Donald Trump began sparring after the CNN White House correspondent asked him about why a so-called caravan of migrants heading from Latin America to the southern U.S. border was emphasized as an issue in the just-concl

CNN's Jim Acosta questions U.S. President Donald Trump during his news conference following Tuesday's midterm U.S. congressional elections at the White House in Washington, U.S., November 7, 2018.

"The View" co-host Sunny Hostin accused the White House aide who got caught up in the crossfire between President Trump and Jim Acosta on Wednesday of committing battery against the CNN reporter.

Footage of the incident shows the intern tried to reach under Acosta's arm to take the mic from him, and his arm came down on hers as he continued to try asking his question of Trump.

"The fact that CNN is proud of the way their employee behaved is not only disgusting, it's an example of their outrageous disregard for everyone, including young women, who work in this Administration", she said.

The White House has used the fabricated physical altercation as grounds to revoke Acosta's press pass, a move that reporters of all stripes and ideologies have condemned.

Earlier Wednesday, Acosta had questioned Mr. Trump on his rhetoric on the caravan moving toward the USA border.

Acosta asked the president about his use of the word "invasion", which he said was "mischaracterizing" a group of migrants that remain hundreds of miles away.

Trump responded: "CNN should be ashamed of itself having you working for them". "The way you treat Sarah Huckabee is frightful", he said, referring to his press secretary.

During the question, Trump interrupted and said, "Here we go again".

"This president's ongoing attacks on the press have gone too far".

Commenting on his revoked pass on CNN, Acosta said he does think the USA government is "trying to shut us down". "And if you did it well, your ratings would be much better". You are a rude bad person.

As US President Donald Trump answered questions from the press following his speech about Wednesday's midterm results, his turbulent relationship with some media outlets was evident. When he arrived at the White House, he was turned away by the Secret Service.

"It's such a hostile media", Trump said after ordering April Ryan, of the American Urban Radio Networks, to sit down when she tried to ask him a question.

"[Sanders] provided fraudulent accusations and cited an incident that never happened", the statement read. Some frames look to be sped up and others slowed down to make Acosta's physical actions seem far more aggressive than they were in reality - as can be seen in numerous videos captured by the news outlets in the room.

"This merits a forceful response, and a lawsuit would be reasonable", said Jonathan Peters, a historian who teaches at the University of Georgia Law School and is the press freedom correspondent for Columbia Journalism Review.

"They are not only unsafe, they are disturbingly un-American", CNN said.

Trump has repeatedly claimed that CNN is "fake news" and incited his followers to chant the phrase at representatives of the news organization during his campaign rallies.
