Hubble Telescope Sees A Smiling Face In Space

AND ESA JUDY SCHMIDT

This effect is known as gravitational lensing and requires that the three participants (the light source, the massive structure, and the observer - which is on Earth) be aligned in a straight-line configuration called a syzygy.

New image taken by Hubble shows a patch of space filled with galaxies of all shapes, colors and sizes. Two yellow-hued blobs hang atop a sweeping arc of light, NASA said in a statement.

The Hubble Telescope has stared into the abyss, and the abyss has stared back in the form of a smiling face in space found during a search for new galaxies and stars. The gravity of the nearby galaxies bends and magnifies the light coming from distant galaxies, making them look brighter and larger than they actually are. But many galaxies in the line of sight also appear distorted. Using the telescope's Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3), the Hubble could easily view distant galaxies at an impeccable resolution. The team of engineers and scientists behind the Hubble Space Telescope will continue to study the data and images gathered by the spacecraft over the next ten years, and they hope to come up with great discoveries.

Stars are born in stellar nurseries or giant clouds of interstellar clouds and dust that grow unstable and begin to collapse due to its own gravity. But flight controllers were able to restore Hubble's optimal performance by switching to a backup gyroscope.

Peering into the lives of other galaxies can shed light on how gas is transformed into giant stars through time and space.
