Elwood Caudill to replace Kim Davis as Rowan County clerk

Kim Davis lost her reelection bid for Rowan County clerk in Kentucky on Tuesday to her Democratic challenger

Kim Davis, the county clerk in Kentucky who was briefly jailed for defying a court order to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, has lost her bid for re-election. He beat one of the gay men denied a marriage license by Davis, David Ermold, in this year's primary.

Davis made global headlines when she said her Christian faith prevented her from granting licenses to gay couples after the U.S. Supreme Court legalized marriage equality in 2015, for which she was briefly sent to jail.

On Tuesday, Davis lost her clerkship in Rowan County, Ky. Her decision made national headlines. They sued, along with several other couples, leading Davis to be sent to jail for five days. The state's governor agreed to recognize the marriages, but the state legislature later changed the law so clerks didn't have to sign marriage licenses.
