Saudi Arabia admits Khashoggi killed in Istanbul consulate

Saudi-friendly Kushner ‘keeping low profile’ as Trump admin shrugs off Khashoggi case report claims

The UAE reiterated its backing for Saudi Arabia as investigations into the disappearance of journalist Jamal Khashoggi continue in Turkey, and said efforts to destabilise the kingdom based on insinuations and selective leaks would fail.

"The reporting that Jared Kushner may have, with USA intelligence, delivered a hit list, an enemies list, to the crown prince, to MBS in Saudi Arabia, and that the prince then may have acted on that and one of the people he took action against was Mr. Khashoggi", Castro said.

Meanwhile, in a statement, the White House said it is "saddened" to know about the Khashoggi's death.

When asked about the U.S. response to the killing, Trump said he would work with Congress - and that he'd prefer not to hurt American companies by cutting billions in arms sales to the kingdom.

Senator Rand Paul, a Tennessee Republican, agreed with Coffman in his own Twitter post, and renewed his call for a halt to USA arms sales to Saudi Arabia.

Secretary General of United Nations Antonio Guterres has also expressed condolences to Khashoggi's family. "The Secretary-General stresses the need for a prompt, thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances of Mr Khashoggi's death and full accountability for those responsible".

Khashoggi, a critic of Mohammed bin Salman, went missing after entering the consulate on October 2 to obtain documents for his upcoming marriage. Ever since he disappeared on October 2 while visiting the mission, Saudi officials have repeatedly said that he left the consulate alive and that they had no information about his whereabouts or fate.

The kingdom also announced the sacking of a top intelligence official Ahmad al-Assiri and royal court media adviser Saud al-Qahtani, both top aides to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman who has faced mounting pressure over the Khashoggi affair.

US Treasury sends China warning shot regarding currency
And there are signs that the currency may fall further to 7 yuan per dollar -- a level not seen since the 2008 financial crisis. China's foreign ministry welcomed the report and said it reflected "common sense and the consensus of the global community".

The prosecutor isn't saying what sparked the argument, or how Khashoggi actually died. Adam Schiff, ranking Democrat on the House intelligence committee, who on Friday night stated the obvious, that Saudi Arabia's claim that he was "killed while brawling with a team of more than a dozen dispatched from Saudi Arabia is not credible".

First we were told Mr. Khashoggi supposedly left the consulate and there was blanket denial of any Saudi involvement. Since his disappearance, the kingdom had rejected Turkish fears he was killed and dismembered there as "baseless", but growing global pressure and comments by USA officials up to President Donald Trump appears to have forced the kingdom to acknowledge the slaying.

"Now, a fight breaks out and he's killed in the consulate, all without knowledge of Crown Prince", Graham said.

Turkish officials had said they believed he was killed in the building.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak on behalf of the administration or the Saudi government.

What Castro said he found troubling was the "reporting that Jared Kushner may have, with U.S. intelligence, delivered a hit list, an enemies list to the crown prince, to MBS in Saudi Arabia, and that the prince then may have acted on that, and one of the people that he took action against is Mr. Khashoggi".

Trump's previous warnings over the case drew an angry response Sunday from Saudi Arabia and its state-linked media, including a suggestion that Riyadh could wield its oil production as a weapon.
