Deputies near Houston say this woman left a 2-year-old boy at a stranger's door last night before fleeing in a vehicle.

The video shows the woman running toward the front door of the home while lifting the child in the air by one arm.

The shocking incident was reported at roughly 8:20 p.m. on Wednesday after a homeowner in Spring, Texas, found two-year-old Royal Simmons standing on her front doorstep by himself.

Authorities say deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office responded to a home in Spring, Texas Wednesday evening.

After letting go of the boy and bags, the woman repeatedly rang the doorbell, knocked, then ran off.

Authorities later determined the identity of the little boy and his family after his father saw the video and "immediately recognized the child as his son", Spencer told reporters at a press conference Thursday. She then called 911.

The child appeared to be uninjured and in good health. He is now in the custody of Child Protective Services.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said abandonment charges are likely for the woman seen in the video, who is not the mother of the 2-year-old.

MCSO is still investigating.

Video taken by the home's security system captured the woman dropping the child off.

"Had she waited just seven seconds, the home owner would have opened the door and maybe would've started a conversation, dialogue to direct her to the correct house to drop the child off", Spencer said.

The woman approaches the door holding the toddler by the arm.

He said it's possible she could face a child abandonment charge.

The child was not hurt.

The boy remains in the custody of the state as the investigation continues.

The child's father told News4Jax sister station KPRC-TV that the woman seen in the video is a family friend who meant to drop the boy off at home, but mistakenly left him at the wrong house.
