Turkish police search Saudi consul's home in Khashoggi case

Khashoggi vanished after entering the consulate for official documents ahead of his upcoming wedding to his Turkish fiancee

Jamal Khashoggi, 60, is feared to have been killed inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Saudi Arabia and Turkey have reportedly sent investigative teams to inspect the Saudi consul general's residence in the Turkish city of Istanbul, as the kingdom struggles to convince the world that it had nothing to do with the mysterious disappearance of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Meanwhile, the Washington Post has published the last column Mr Khashoggi wrote before his disappearance. "You're going to get me in trouble".

Last night, Turkish authorities spent nine hours searching the Saudi consul's residence while other crime scene teams searched the Saudi consulate. A pro-government Turkish newspaper Wednesday published a gruesome recounting of the alleged slaying of Khashoggi at the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul.

Khashoggi, a critic of the Saudi regime, vanished on October 2 after entering the consulate.

The newspaper said it gathered more information about the suspects through facial recognition software, a database of Saudi cellphone numbers, leaked Saudi government documents, witnesses and media.

Pompeo had previously expressed confidence that the Saudi probe into Khashoggi's disappearance would be "thorough, complete and transparent".

"They are hesitant to provide a platform for journalists from Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Yemen".

Investigators enter Saudi consulate where journalist vanished
Rubio's comments come a day after Trump vowed "severe punishment" for the USA ally if they were found responsible. Business leaders and media partners have pulled out of FII because of Khashoggi's disappearance.

Khashoggi in the past said he always considered himself a patriot, viewing his criticism of the Saudi government as a sign of his love for Saudi Arabia and a desire for conditions there to improve.

Pompeo is scheduled to brief Trump on the trip Thursday morning at the White House. The secretary of state noted that the Saudi leaders, while denying knowledge of anything that occurred inside the consulate, had committed to accountability "including for Saudi Arabia's senior leaders or senior officials".

Asked if the U.S. would be willing to walk away from Saudi Arabia, Trump said: "I do not want to do that and frankly they have a tremendous order, $110 billion", referring to a promised United States arms sales to the kingdom.

It said Otaibi can be heard on one tape saying during Khashoggi's torture: "Do this outside".

After returning from talks in Riyadh and Istanbul, US secretary of state Mike Pompeo said answers were needed and "sooner is better than later for everyone". He was allegedly killed during an interrogation inside the consulate, media outlets have reported.

Photos appear to show Mutreb accompanying the crown prince on a trip to the US earlier this year, and he was formally registered as a diplomat in London. He also confirmed that all members of his family support the official Saudi investigations, which only "will lead us to positive results and uncover the truth".

That's one reason some expect Washington to try to help Saudi Arabia find a way out of the political mess it faces over the disappearance of Jamal Khashoggi.
