#MeToo: Film-maker Nishtha Jain accuses Vinod Dua of sexual harassment

Report Left or Right must not matter in #MeToo Nishtha Jain who outed journalist Vinod Dua
       	        Sanya Dhingra 14 October 2018

A filmmaker recounted her experience of sexual harassment in 1989 by Vinod Dua, where she accused him of telling lewd jokes, stalking and groping.

Jain says she had attended an interview with Mr. Dua, who was starting a new venture. She wrote, "One night as I came down to the parking, he was there". He wanted to talk to me and asked me to enter his vehicle... "I knew that we could go to court for serious crimes such as rape, but how could I make a case about humiliation?" Dua asked her to sit in the vehicle and just she could settle down he slobbered all over her face. I managed to get out and get into my office auto and leave.

That day, the filmmaker somehow managed to get off the auto but, "I spotted him again in the parking in coming nights, after a few days he stopped stalking me".

"If at all my father is truly guilty of what you described, it is unacceptable, traumatic and painful", Mallika said on Sunday in response to documentary filmmaker Nishtha Jain's allegation that Vinod Dua had harassed and stalked her nearly three decades ago. The filmmaker recalled how Vinod Dua lashed out at Akshay Kumar for his sexist remarks on her daughter Mallika. "However, I do hope she'll be able to, believe me, empathize with me as well as the other women he has harassed".

According to Jain, the first incident took place in June 1989, when she met Dua for a job interview.

We missed out on scoring when we had the chances to do so. "We had chances so it's a good question to ask why we didn't score". Depay then hit the Germany crossbar moments before Wijnaldum netted Holland's third goal just before the final whistle.

Nishtha Jain also apologised to Mallika saying, "if she has inadvertently shamed her". "I spoke to my brother and two lawyer friends about it, but desisted from lodging a complaint because I didn't think I could pursue it legally". After a few days he stopped stalking me.

She called him an opportunist and said he made programs about sexual harassment when he himself is one of the predators.

Today, he does programmes explaining the world what constitutes sexual harassment. I don't know how this man learnt about it.

After the bitter experience, Jain got a job at NewsTrack as a video editor but somehow Dua learned about it. He had friends in my office who would inform him when I would be working late. At the time, Vinod Dua was an established journalist, and the complainant had just graduated. Didn't stop till I loudly said that he's hurting me. If he did to me, I'm sure he would have done it to other women. I could see what his mind was cooking up when stories against him spill out. Jain added she wouldn't be surprised if Dua denies the incident.

Reached for a comment by ThePrint, Dua said: "I will be releasing a statement tomorrow, it will answer all the questions".
