Latest On The Injury To Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa

Bama's Tagovailoa (knee) questionable to return vs Mizzou

Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa aggravated a knee sprain and was forced to leave the field in the third quarter during Saturday's 39-10 win over Missouri.

ESPN sideline reporter Todd McShay reported Alabama personnel described Tagovailoa's status as "questionable" though made it clear that was more to do with the 20-point score differential than his injury.

Tua Tagovailoa #13 of the Alabama Crimson Tide celebrates beating the Georgia Bulldogs in overtime to win the CFP National Championship presented by AT&T at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on January 8, 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia.

He trotted off the field but headed to Alabama's medical tent.

Tagovailoa, who entered the game with a bulky knee brace on his right knee, seemed to favor his right knee after sliding on a scramble in the third quarter.

With the outcome not really in doubt for much of the second half, Tagovailoa watched the rest of the game from the sideline while Hurts played quarterback.

Trainers tended to Tagovailoa on the field, and he was able to jog off under his own power. His parents joined him in the tent.

Nick Saban said on the broadcast after the game that Tagovailoa was "OK", and that his injury "was the same thing he was dealing with all week".

Before the injury, Tagovailoa was 12-of-22 passing for 265 yards and three touchdowns.

Former starter Jalen Hurts has proved to be a more-than-capable backup this season, completed 74 percent of his passes for 568 yards. Saban labeled the injury a sprain on Thursday and noted that Tagovailoa hadn't missed any reps in practice.

Saban added in his postgame news conference that Tagovailoa could have gone back into the game and wanted to get back in, but Saban decided against it.
