Thomas's Tour de France trophy stolen in Birmingham

Thomas said the trophy 'meant a lot to him', but not as much as the memories of winning the Tour

Geraint Thomas' Tour de France trophy has been stolen after being displayed at the Cycle Show in Birmingham, Team Sky have said.

Team Sky said police were investigating the matter and they were liaising with all relevant parties to agree on the best course of action to resolve the issue.

Armstong took to Twitter after it was reported that Thomas" trophy from his maiden title had been stolen, offering the Welshman one of his own "titles'.

Team Sky had loaned Pinarello Chris Froome's Vuelta a España and Giro d'Italia trophies, alongside Thomas' Tour trophy.

"It is incredibly unfortunate that this has happened", Thomas was quoted as saying in a statement.

"We accept full responsibility and have personally apologized to Geraint", Hemington said. "A trophy is important, but clearly what matters most are the awesome memories from this incredible summer - and no-one can ever take those away", he added.
