A salt water crocodile also called a saltie or estuarine crocodile shows its teeth

A woman has been attacked and taken by a saltwater crocodile in remote Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory.

Police were notified about the attack which happened just after 10:30am at the billabong near Gan Gan, 206km south west of Yirrkala.

The Aboriginal ranger was snatched by the crocodile at the East Arnhem outstation of Gan Gan about 206km southwest of Yirrkala at about 10am on Friday.

Police say they do not yet know the condition or identity of the victim.
