A NY man is under arrest for allegedly plotting to blow himself up on the National Mall on election day.
"As alleged, (the man) concocted a twisted plan to draw attention to his political ideology by killing himself on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. - risking harm to many others in the process", U.S. Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman said.
Rosenfeld told investigators that the goal of the dramatic suicide he planned was to draw attention to his belief in "sortition", it said.

Paul Rosenfeld, 56, of Tappan, meant to kill himself in the explosion and draw attention to his political beliefs, prosecutors said.
He said he used approximately 8 pounds of black powder to build a large bomb in the basement of his home, adding that he installed components in the explosive device to make sure he was killed in the blast planned for November 6., according to the complaint.
On Wednesday, Rosenfeld was charged by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of NY with one count of unlawfully manufacturing a destructive device and one count of interstate transportation and receipt of an explosive.
USA to evaluate Pakistan's bailout request on merit
But the PBOC has not been following with equivalent hikes, so spreads between the cost of US and Chinese debt are narrowing. Pakistan's foreign currency reserves dropped to $8.4 billion in late September, barely enough for current debt payments .
"Rosenfeld's letters and text messages stated, in substance and in part, that he meant to 1) build an explosive device; 2) transport the explosive device to Washington D.C.; and 3) detonate this explosive device on November 6, 2018, on the National Mall in Washington D.C". He agreed to answer the officer's questions and said he ordered large quantities of black power - an explosive substance - over the Internet, which he transported from a location in New Jersey to his home in Tappan.
On Wednesday, FBI agents continued searching a home just north of New York City, where they discovered the device.
Rosenfeld also admitted to building smaller bombs and conducting test detonations, prosecutors said.
Rosenfeld was said to have sent letters and text messages to a Pennsylvania reporter in August and September detailing his deadly plot, which was thwarted when the reported alerted the authorities.
Federal agents also found empty black powder canisters and a fusing system that could trigger an explosive.
Agents said they think Rosenfeld was acting alone in the alleged plot.
Rosenfeld was scheduled to appear in federal court in White Plains on Wednesday.
