Philippine president's fiercest critic arrested, posts bail

Philippines senator Antonio Trillanes arrested after weeks holed up in Senate

Trillanes, a household name in the Philippines for his efforts to bring down the president, has stolen the political limelight in the three weeks since Duterte voided an amnesty given him by predecessor Benigno Aquino, citing flaws in the procedure, including a missing application form.

Philippine police on Tuesday arrested a lawmaker who is among President Rodrigo Duterte's most vocal critics, just minutes after a court issued a warrant on revived charges of rebellion that were dropped in 2011 after an amnesty.

He backed a probe into Duterte by the International Criminal Court.

"I will go with the arresting team when there's a warrant, no matter how unjust that warrant may be", Trillanes said, according to CNN Philippines.

Albayalde also said that Trillanes could post the bail set by the court "anytime".

Trillanes, shown September 7, is among President Rodrigo Duterte's most vocal critics.

Senator Antonio Trillanes IV is holding on to a slim hope that another branch of the Makati Regional Trial Court would rule in his favor on his non-bailable case.

Duterte's critics have accused him of trying to distract the public and prioritizing a settling of scores rather than tackling problems like inflation, which his office rejects.

Wyoming disappoints by grizzly bear protections
The judge's order puts a stop to grizzly hunts that targeted as many as 22 bears in Wyoming, one in Idaho and none in Montana. Instead, it turned strictly on his determination that the Fish and Wildlife Service had exceeded its authority.

Aside from the rebellion and coup-related charges in the two courts, Duterte has also ordered the military to resume an inquiry into the senator's role in the mutinies.

Duterte has been highly sensitive to criticism, especially over his anti-drug crackdown that has left thousands of mostly poor suspects dead since he took office in mid-2016.

Alameda found "factual and legal bases" for the President's proclamation, thereby junking Trillanes' defense that he, indeed, applied for amnesty and complied with all the requirements, including admitting his guilt.

"In a view of the above disquisition, the prosecution's omnibus motion dated September 7, 2018 for issuance of warrant of arrest and hold departure order against Sen".

Trillanes has strongly denied the president's claims and has provided news reports and defence department documents to counter them.

Duterte has also accused Trillanes, without offering evidence, of plotting with other opposition politicians, including the Liberal party and leftist groups, to oust him.

Trillanes has been key critic of Duterte and has repeatedly slammed the 73-year-old president for his policies, including a deadly campaign against illegal drugs. "Trillanes" detention could have a "chilling affect" on other critics, Conde wrote.
