New Zealand PM brings baby to UN assembly

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern appeared at Mashable's 2018 Social Good Summit to advocate for kids

She became the first New Zealand prime minister to give birth whilst in office, and the second ever elected head of government to do so, after the late Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto had her first daughter, Bakhtawar, in 1990.

Her partner Clarke Gayford, who is the baby's full-time caregiver, sat with the New Zealand delegation and held Neve as Ardern spoke in NY on Monday.

Anyway, they all made it intact (if sleep deprived), and Gayford held the baby while Ardern made her speech at the peace summit.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern just brought her new baby Neve along to a United Nations meeting in NY.

During a hospital press conference in June, Ardern spoke about how she chose the unique name for her new daughter.

The UN even mocked up a security pass for New Zealand's First Baby.

He also joked about giving the Japanese delegation a fright when they walked into a meeting room in the middle of a nappy change.

Mr Gayford took to twitter to share Neve's first United Nations experience, which began with 37 hours of flying. Great yarn for her 21st, ' he said.

She held a rally Sunday in Nevada , where she told about 2,000 voters, "We get the leaders we vote for". Obama is on a campaign for the nonpartisan nonprofit organization she co-chairs, When We All Vote .

I wish I could have captured the startled look on a Japanese delegation inside United Nations yesterday who walked into a meeting room in the middle of a nappy change.

Still, the United Nations was incredibly supportive of the First Baby of New Zealand's presence, with United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric saying the organisation was delighted to see Neve there. "There's not many places you can do that", Ardern told a Social Good Summit in NY on Sunday.

"Neve is actually nearby me most of the time in New Zealand", Ms Ardern said according to NZ's NewsHub. "When we met her, we thought she looked like she suited the name".

On Sunday, Ardern gave her first speech in NY at Unicef's social good summit, restating her commitment to ending child poverty and making her country the best place in the world to be a child.

When the event moderator remarked that the baby was backstage and very peaceful, Ardern quipped: "Wasn't at 3:30 this morning".

"I have the ability to take my child to work, there's not many places you can do that".

"If I can do one thing, and that is change the way we think about these things, then I will pleased we have achieved something".
