David Smith: Combine Brexit and Labour for the scariest of nightmares

Among the Labour voters polled 6% said they would be less likely to vote for the party in such situation More

Labour's policy on Brexit will be a central issue at its conference in Liverpool, which kicks off on Saturday, with more than 100 local parties urging the leadership to back a referendum on any final Brexit deal.

Speaking on the Andrew Marr Show this morning, Mr Corbyn was grilled over which way he would vote should a second referendum occur, but would not give a definitive answer.

Mr Corbyn declined to say which way he would vote in such a poll, saying there was "conjecture" as to what the question would be.

"The EU should be clear, I will not overturn the result of the referendum". He told the Sunday Mirror newspaper "I'm not calling for a second referendum".

Mr Watson voted Remain in the 2016 referendum - and said it was "highly likely" he would vote the same way again. Most of the party's half a million members voted in 2016 to remain in the European Union, but many of its 257 lawmakers represent areas of the country that wanted to leave.

"So if conference makes a decision I will not walk away from it and I will act accordingly".

He said: "Of the respondents who now support Labour and voted leave in the Brexit referendum, only 6% put Brexit at the top of their concerns and say they would not, or be less likely to, vote Labour if the party backed a popular vote".

And perhaps that's what worries me, because I know just how bad she can be", she said. "And one time they had me drink so much". In the interview, Smart described Barzee, who she said would encourage Mitchell to rape her, as "evil and twisted".

"We would vote it down if it didn't meet our six tests in order to send our government -if it's still in office - straight back to the negotiating table".

Tory chairman Brandon Lewis said: "The last pretence that Labour ever respected the democratic decision of the British people is rapidly disappearing".

Mr Corbyn told an eve-of-conference rally in Liverpool: "If this Government can't deliver, then I say to Theresa May: the best way to settle this is to have a general election".

If this new support was evenly distributed across constituencies - which is very unlikely - the extra 2,400 votes per area would win Labour about 66 more seats in all, just enough for a majority if other seats were not lost, based on the 2017 election.

In the North, 86 percent of respondents said they backed a say on the final deal while 88 percent in the Midlands supported the idea.

While she declined to go as far as shadow cabinet colleague Barry Gardiner, who suggested another referendum could spark "civil disobedience", Ms Long-Bailey said "people would find it quite concerning and it needs to be looked at very carefully".
