Czech Tennis Star Fires At Serena Williams for US Open Behavior

Serena Williams confronts chair umpire Carlos Ramos during the U.S. Open final that she ultimately lost to Naomi Osaka

Male tennis players are nearly three times more likely to be fined for losing their temper and smashing racquets than their female counterparts, The New York Times reported Saturday.

Osaka also named Williams as one of her idols and understandably was very happy to have the 23-time Grand Slam champion's blessing despite the controversial outcome. The figures further revealed that male players have received 649 fines for breaking racquets as compared to 99 for women, while the former was fined 344 times for "audible obscenity" as compared to 140 for females.

"I couldn't tell what was going on, because it was just so loud in there", she added.

A WTA Tour star has called out Serena Williams over her "bulls-t" US Open final meltdown. Still reeling from the loss of the point, she called Ramos a liar and a thief -for "stealing" her point-and said, "You still owe me an apology".

"If I say something I can tweet it out right now and the whole world can read it, and you can own that", he said. They think differently. And men don't really understand women. For me, it blows my mind.

But for now Osaka is itching to do normal stuff - like catch up with big sister Mari, who is also a professional tennis player, go shopping and eat her favourite matcha ice cream.

Storm surge could be Hurricane Florence's deadliest, most destructive threat
Tropical Storm Isaac appeared "poorly organized" and was weaker on the early morning hours of Wednesday Sep. Subtropical Storm Joyce , which formed in the North Atlantic Tuesday, is also not expected to hit the U.S.

While the match was full of drama and controversy, Osaka told Degeneres that she didn't even know what had happened exactly because she was taught as a child to not look when an opponent shows anger on court.

In a bid to win her 24th Grand Slam title, Ms Williams fell to 20-year-old Osaka in straight sets. Williams claimed Ramos' actions in NY were "sexist" but speaking to BBC Sport yesterday, US Open mixed-doubles champion Murray said: "I think that's a bit far-fetched".

The report, looking at fines data at Grand Slam events from 1998 to 2018, found that women were fined 535 times, while men were fined 1,517 times. (Mouratoglou admitted he'd been signaling her from the stands but claimed that everyone does it.) In some tournaments, that's not entirely against the rules, but it is at the US Open, and Ramos properly issued a warning for it. In 2009, Williams refused to apologize after threatening to shove a ball down a lineswoman's throat in an expletive-laden outburst.

Make no mistake, Serena Williams is a force to be reckoned with.

"When a woman is emotional, she's "hysterical" and she's penalised for it", King said. She is right that she has long campaigned for women's rights to equal pay, both in tennis purses and off the court, and for racial and gender equality.
