Hurricane Florence has weakened slightly to a Category 2 storm, but don't be fooled, it's still incredibly risky.

In the past century, only seven major hurricanes have hit the SC and North Carolina coasts.

"Florence was anticipated to make a steady, assured progress directly towards the Carolinas, make landfall, and move directly inland".

For 62 years, Robert Faircloth has lived in Wilmington, North Carolina. The father was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries.

Florence's hurricane-force winds were blowing 80 miles (130 kilometers) from its center, and tropical-storm-force winds reached up to 195 miles (315 kilometers) from the eye.

"The shelters are not taking dogs", Ramirez said.

In New Bern, North Carolina, the storm surge overwhelmed the town of 30,000 which is located at the confluence of the Neuse and Trent rivers.

"There's more to the story than the category", said Brian McNoldy, a researcher at the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science.

Resident Jay Manning said he and his wife watched with alarm as water filled the street.

I was not able to speak for myself when I was 14. "The consequences of this abuse are profound and permanent for some", she said. Speaking directly to other survivors, Carnes declared, "Your abuse does not define you".

Carrie Underwood's recent illness sent her to the hospital
The conversation then went to her three-year-old son and whether he'll follow in his mother's musical footsteps. "He'll discover the classics".

"We have prepared everything", he says, "to have enough food, water, batteries, radio, first-aid supplies, and everything we need to be safe". "My wife's in a panic right now".

"Even the rescuers can not stay there", he said. "This is a 500- or 1,000-year event". It was downgraded to a Category 1 hurricane before coming ashore near Wrightsville Beach close to Wilmington, North Carolina.

The wide storm has weakened to a Category 2 hurricane and forecasters expect top winds to drop more as it nears the shore, but they're sharing a giant dose of uncertainty.

About 10 million people could be affected by the storm. But previous research has shown that the strongest hurricanes are getting wetter, more intense and intensifying faster because of human-caused climate change.

No matter how devastating or catastrophic a hurricane or typhoon is predicted to be, there will inevitably be some people who refuse to evacuate and insist on riding the storm out-and with Hurricane Florence getting ready to assault the Carolinas, some residents of coastal areas in North and SC are doing exactly that.

"We call them disasters because they break things", said FEMA's Long.

"Promptly follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials..." Trump plans a visit to the region next week. The storm is moving northwest at 17 miles per hour (27 kph).

THE life-threatening hurricane, Florence, is expected to hover the Carolinas in the USA with torrential rains, high winds and massive coastal erosion.

Tesh, who works in information technology for UNC-Wilmington, said she and her husband have been ferrying valuables to her parents' house on the mainland in Wilmington, where they planned to ride out the storm. If anything, we are more than likely going to have a power outage.
