John Brennan's Security Clearance Revoked by Trump

Trump revokes clearance of former CIA chief Brennan

The move came the day after Brennan chastised Trump on Twitter for having called his former White House liaison office communications director a "dog".

Brennan is the first former national security official to see his security clearance revoked since the White House announced last month that Trump was considering taking that action against several of his most vocal critics in the national security world. "And it is an abuse of power for Trump to revoke clearances, unless he can prove misuse of classified information, which I don't think he can".

Sen. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland said of Trump, "Leaders behave like this in dictatorships, not democracies". Mr. Brennan's lying and recent conduct, characterized by increasingly frenzied commentary, is wholly inconsistent with access to the Nation's most closely held secrets and facilitates the very aim of our adversaries, which is to sow division and chaos.

Trump's action, critics and nonpartisan experts said, marked an unprecedented politicization of the federal government's security clearance process. None deserves losing the clearance as much as Brennan does, and I believe that at least some of them don't deserve to lose it at all.

One theory popular among Democrats this afternoon for why Brennan's clearance was revoked today is that Trump is trying to "distract" from the Omarosa trainwreck.

"Journalists ought to be skeptical of the powerful", Carlson said on "Tucker Carlson Tonight", referring to Brennan. In July, a spokesperson for McCabe tweeted that the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director's security clearance was he was deactivated when he was sacked.

The latest dustup came Wednesday in Houston , where a brawl broke out in the aftermath of a DeAndre Hopkins-Jimmie Ward scuffle. Hopkins was sent to the Texans' practice bubble, while Ward was sent to the sideline, according to the Houston Chronicle .

The president's statement accuses Brennan of "erratic conduct and behavior" that "has tested and far exceeded the limits of any professional courtesy that may have been due to him".

A mini-flap developed following Sanders' briefing when White House reporters noticed the July 26 date on the president's statement.

Also on the list was Susan Rice, Obama's national security adviser. In its announcement, the White House did not point to any specific evidence that Brennan had divulged classified information - furthering the notion that the president was simply engaging in retaliation.

Mr Brennan described Mr Trump's performance after July's summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin as being "nothing short of treasonous".

"I just think that he has not fulfilled the responsibilities of the president of the United States". "He is spreading erroneous and derogatory information about President Trump without any proof and it does nothing more than harm our nation and our national security". "And that's always been the metric when it comes to a revocation of a clearance", Price said.
