Montreal unemployment rate inches up in July

'Another head scratcher': Canada adds 54100 jobs in July

The loss of 3,700 jobs is the largest single-month drop locally since November 2015.

Nationally, employment rose by 54,000 in July, mostly due to increased part-time work.

The decline in the number of people working in Ottawa-Gatineau came despite a spike in government employment.

Meanwhile, the closely watched tech sector collectively shed 2,800 employees.

The Canadian economy added a net 54,100 jobs in July on a seasonally adjusted basis, Statistics Canada said Friday.
