Ten people in hospital after Manchester shooting

Greater Manchester Police emergency services were called to the scene after reports of gunshots

Ten people have been taken to the hospital with injuries after shots were fired in the Moss Side area of Manchester, according to the Greater Manchester Police.

Several people were in the area after a carnival, which had finished a few hours before, with police trying to establish exactly where the shooting took place and identify those involved.

"At this stage, ten people are now in hospital suffering from minor to major injuries". One man was in a serious condition in hospital with leg wounds, BBC reported. "This was a reckless act that could have had devastating consequences with families and friends losing loved ones".

The Caribbean Carnival, which has been held every summer since 1972, draws thousands of people.

A number of people were in the area following the Caribbean Carnival, which had finished some hours before, the force added.

There was a huge police response, and officers established that several people had been injured as a result of a firearm being discharged.
