Tiger Woods shoots even-par 70 in first round of PGA Championship

The PGA Championship logo is seen on Phil Mickelson golf bag during a practice round for the PGA Championship golf tournament at Bellerive Country Club Wednesday Aug. 8 2018 in St. Louis

Bellerive Country Club resembled a beehive on Friday afternoon with Tiger Woods in his pomp and generating a febrile atmosphere in the second round of the 100th USPGA Championship.

Woods still has a long way to go to put himself in contention, but he's trending in the right direction at Bellerive. Would he struggle again and go home, as he did at the U.S. Open (78-71)? "The good thing is we're going to have the greens prepared before we go back out there". He has not been in the top 10 after the first round since the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March.

Woodland fired a four-under par 66 to lead on 10-under 130, one stroke ahead of British Open runner-up Kevin Kisner with two-time US Open champion Brooks Koepka third on 132.

The Euros? They're not out of it, with forgotten man Thomas Pieters from Belgium leading the way on seven under after following his opening 67 with a 66.

"It's always a bit frustrating to have to come back and finish a round in the morning, but that's golf, and something I will just have to deal with", Fox said after his truncated round. "I'm not too anxious with what anyone else is doing out there".

Woods was 3-under through the first seven holes of his second round on Friday before a weather delay stopped the round. 'I feel I'm in a similar position to Carnoustie in that I had work to do over the weekend and managed to do it, so let's hope for something similar, ' said Molinari.

This is Woods' 14th tournament of 2018 and he is playing the last of the four major championships for the first time since 2015, when he missed the cut at Whistling Straits.

Two rounds of 63s.

And when Spieth still has any kind of chance, well, you just never know.

But Maurizio Sarri has made a decision to back Álvaro Morata to bounce back into form aftera disappointing first season. The Belgian was expected to get another shot at the redemption in London, after his time at Dortmund.

Koepka defended his US Open crown in June, the first back-to-back US Open victor since Curtis Strange in 1988-89.

Kisner praised his playing partner, who also happens to be a good buddy of his. Finau missed a short putt for bogey on No. 9 to drop back over par.

Woods was 3 over through seven holes of this championship, and he is 6 under over his next 18 holes and appeared to be gaining momentum.

"Couldn't have asked for a better start".

"I got to listen to all of the KU/Missouri banter all day with Gary, " Kisner said. "I hit it well on the second nine". I was putting nice. Much of his swing flaws have been the result of a flawed setup at address, which in turn leads him to take the club back on an incorrect path.

After a par at the fourth, Woods hit a booming 318-yard drive into the fairway at No. 5, then stuck an approach shot to inside of 10 feet. "I would have liked to have birdied 17".

He reached the par-5 eighth hole in two shots and two-putted for a birdie to climb to four under and six shots off the pace. He's absolutely striping it and rolling the rock, so if he's going to keep that up we're going to have a pretty good battle if I can too. The three-time major victor, just two weeks beyond celebrating his 25th birthday, hasn't won in 19 starts this season.

"For me, I'm very happy with where I'm at". "When I stand over a golf ball putting as comfortable as I am right now, I'm pretty excited".

Spieth still has hope in his second try at a career Grand Slam.
