Online streaming services more popular than ever, ONS report reveals

The proportion of adults streaming on-demand content has risen from 29 per cent in 2016 to 46 per cent

Email is the most popular activity. The study also indicates that the percentage of households with some kind of internet access has not changed since past year, remaining at 90 per cent.

Almost a third of Britons don't think they have the required computer skills to do their jobs despite 9 in 10 households having internet access, according to the Office for National Statistics.

A separate study from the ONS in March 2018 similarly noted that 8.4% (4.5 million) of United Kingdom adults have never even used the internet (here), which again was largely put down to a mix of issues, albeit predominantly ones related to age or disability.

Otherwise the percentage of adults who use the internet daily has grown from 35% in 2006 to 86% in 2018, while over the same period weekly use has declined from 16% to 4% (i.e. we're all making much more regular use of the internet).

Aimia’s largest shareholder backs co on Aeroplan loyalty sale
Mittleman, however, argued that "even during the 2003 bankruptcy [court filing] of Air Canada, there was no run on the bank". Leisure carrier Air Transat and Flair Airlines have joined Porter Airlines as new members of the Aeroplan loyalty programme.

That compares to less than a third of respondents in 2016, the last time the figure was given.

Meanwhile, 70 percent of employed adults consider they have the required computer skills for their jobs, though 26 percent of adults who use smartphones did not have smartphone security and a further 24 percent did not know if they have security installed on their devices.

In 2018, among all adults, 77 percent had used the internet "on the go" using a mobile phone, smartphone, laptop, tablet or handheld device. Still neither video nor music can compete with the thrill of sending or receiving emails, something 84 per cent of people did over the past quarter.

Of interest to the infosec world will be the public's self-reported use of two-factor authentication, where three-quarters of 25 to 34-year-olds said they had logged into a secure online service with the aid of a code sent in a text message.
