Leaked audio reveals Devin Nunes remarks on Republican midterm prospects, Russia probe

Secret recording reveals why Rosenstein hasn’t been impeached – and when he will be

Maddow said on Wednesday that the audio, which MSNBC described as a "secret audio recording", was obtained by a progressive group called Fuse Washington after one of its members paid to attend a private fundraiser held last week for Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, a member of House GOP leadership.

Interestingly, while Nunes has lobbied for the Russian Federation investigation to end, at the fundraiser he said getting stolen emails for use in a campaign would be a crime.

It seems Nunes is anxious about whether Republicans would be able to make up the majority in the upcoming November elections and the fact that the GOP is the only thing stopping the removal of Donald Trump as president.

A recording of a fundraising event with Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) reveals why Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein hasn't yet been impeached despite so many Republicans calling for the action - and what they're waiting for.

Newly released audio from a Republican fundraiser features Nunes talking to donors at a gathering in Spokane, Washington, last week, during which Nunes said that "if we do not keep the majority, all of this goes away".

He added: "We have to keep the majority". -Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) In the series of recordings, as Maddow lays out in detail, Nunes also admits that a US politician running for office who accepts and then releases, "let's say", the stolen emails from a foreign entity, that would be "criminal" activity.

As Nunes sees it, Republicans must also choose their priorities within the limited amount of time they have before the midterms.

"You have to decide what you want right now because the Senate only has so much time". But ultimately let's say the Portuguese came and brought her some stolen emails.

Ryan said in July, "if this were to pass through the House, then what it would do is tie the Senate into knots ..."

"Sessions won't un-recuse, and Mueller won't clear the president, we're the only ones", Nunes said, according to the audio, which first aired publicly on MSNBC Wednesday night. "I don't think you're gonna get any argument from most of our colleagues".

The series of recordings made public by Maddow do not include every question to which Nunes was responding.

"So it's not a matter that any of us like Rosenstein".

It is clear that he intends to undermine the investigation because he lists keeping control of the House as an alternative to Attorney General Jeff Sessions - who is recused from the investigation and all related matters on the advice of ethics experts - taking control of the probe or to Mueller finding the president to be innocent.
