Perseid meteor shower 2018 to be BEST EVER: Astronomers tout 'AMAZING SHOW'

The annual Perseid meteor shower will be peaking this Saturday and Sunday night.

If you happen to be in a light-pollution-free area with nice weather, you'll probably be able to see about 60 or 70 meteors streaking through the moonless sky, according to NASA estimates.

The meteors we see in August are fragments left by the comet Swift-Tuttle.

Every year stargazers look to the sky mid-August to see a spectacular display. "The moon will be near new moon, it will be a crescent, which means it will set before the Perseid show gets underway after midnight", NASA's Bill Cooke told

One of the best sky shows of the year is coming this weekend.

Even better news still, the moon won't be spoiling the view. Best of all, constellations and the Milky Way should be highly visible due to a New Moon on August 11, meaning there will not be as much light to drown out the stars.

Perhaps you might remember an fantastic meteor show back in the early 1990s?

The radiant will appear to come out next to the Perseid's namesake constellation, Constellation Perseus.

They should start whizzing across the sky before midnight, but the best displays will be in the hours before dawn. That was most likely the Perseids.

But you do not have to worry about finding the constellation in the star-lit night because the Perseids will burst out in every direction imaginable.

Up! Seriously...just find yourself a piece of wide-open sky, without light pollution, lie back and look up.

But if you are feeling a little bit more adventurous, you can follow the Perseids and trace their trajectory backwards to Perseus.

The beauty of meteor-watching is that you just need your eyes. It's a rich meteor shower, and it's steady.

If you head out, do not forget to pack something warm for the night, snacks, drinks, blankets and give your eyes up to 30 minutes to adjust to the dark of night.

Quiet outdoor areas with unobstructed views of the horizon, such as fields and big open parks are usually a good bet when looking for a meteor viewing spot.
