Knicks to Part Ways With Joakim Noah Before Training Camp

Despite some rumors saying that Joakim Noah still figures he could be a consistent part of the New York Knicks rotation, the team has remained firm on their stand to either find a trade partner for Noah's bloated contract or release him if a trade is not possible.

The New York Knicks are unlikely to bring Joakim Noah back into the organization under David Fizdale.

The Knicks will use the NBA's waive-and-stretch provision to release Noah after September 1. That hasn't changed this offseason, as the Knicks haven't been willing to trade future assets in a salary dump and haven't come close to finding a deal, according to the report.

Talks continued through the summer, but NY hasn't come close to finding a deal to unload Noah, league sources said. Using the stretch provision after August 31 reduces Noah's cap hit to $6.4 million, saving the team $12.9 million toward the salary cap.

The Roku Channel is Now Free for Everyone
Given that the service is supported by advertisements, you'll also have to disable any ad-blockers you may be using. The idea here is that free shows and movies will appear on the Roku Home Screen.

Noah effectively was exiled from the Knicks in late January after he got into a verbal altercation with then-head coach Jeff Hornacek during a practice on Jan. 24 that required the two to be separated. The sides announced a "mutually" agreed upon indefinite leave for Noah on February 2, which he never returned from.

Former Knicks president Phil Jackson signed Noah to a four-year, $72 million free-agent deal in July 2016 with the hope that he could be an anchor for New York's defense.

This is all assuming the Knicks are unable to find a trade partner for Noah, who has played just 53 games in two years with NY. One is to keep Noah and allow him to eat up a massive amount of cap space and a roster spot for the next two years, while not even really being a part of the team. He averaged 1.7 points, 2 rebounds and 5.7 minutes in seven games in the 2017-18 season.
