Hurricane John absorbs tropical storm off Mexico

In its 11 a.m. update, the National Hurricane Center said Debby was located in the north Atlantic and moving north at 16 miles per hour with maximum sustained winds near 40 miles per hour.

The County of Hawai'i is under a Tropical Storm Watch.

High winds and high surf are expected tonight through Wednesday.

Officials with the Federal Emergency Management Agency said the Disaster Recovery Center at the Pahoa Community Center will close at 6 p.m.today, and they will evaluate conditions on Thursday morning to determine if it is safe to reopen.
