Woman helps man short on cash, discovers he's Keith Urban

Keith Urban had been performing in New Jersey when Ruth Reed mistook him for a down-and-outer

"He said 'I am Keith Urban, ' and I said 'No you're not, really?'" New Jersey resident Ruth Reed said.

Urban stopped at a Wawa in Medford on Friday ahead of his scheduled performance at Camden's BB&T Pavilion, where a local woman stepped up to pay for his snacks, New Jersey 101.5 FM reports.

Reed says Urban stuck $5 in the donation box at the register and happily took this picture with her.

The singer is set to perform Friday evening in Camden.

In line at Wawa, her good deed paid off and she came face-to-face with one of the biggest stars in country music.

"I have made a resolution to once a week treat someone at Wawa".

"This man was short a few dollars, he asked a lady with him if she had money".

The generous customer was Ruth Reed, a substitute teacher in South Jersey who happened to be in the store at the same time as Urban. I jumped in and said I would pay and explained why.

"And I just fell apart, fell apart and he was gracious", Reed said.

When the man turned around to thank Reed, he introduced himself as Keith. When he said he was Keith Urban, she didn't believe him until his security guard confirmed she actually was talking to the musician.

"He really could have said, 'Lady, get away from me, ' and he didn't, he was very kind", said Reed. He finally said that I could ask his bodyguard.

She says, "It was then I realized what an idiot I was".
