PSN name changes on the cards, as Sony unveils new beta scheme

PS4 Play Station 4 Firmware Update 6.00 Beta

As is now their standard system, Sony are gearing up for their next major PlayStation 4 system software update by putting it through the wringer of beta testing. You can now register to take part in a beta test for firmware 6.00.

Currently, you can only sign up with a Japanese or North American PSN account through the respective links.

Gematsu caught wind of the news. If you want in on the action, you have until July 27 to apply. We still don't have an exact release date for when the full update will go live, but at least we know Sony has the ball rolling. It's also worth noting that neither page specifically mention firmware update 6.00 by name, though that is very likely what they're for. We still don't really have any clue what the next "big" update will bring, though Sony has promised in the past that it will bring tons of changes to the platform experience in addition to loads of new features. It also usually doesn't reveal what these new features are until sometime after the registration has been closed.
