Trump approved decision to announce Russian indictments before Putin meeting

Putin suggested at the Helsinki summit that he would let US investigators be present for questioning of 12 Russian intelligence officers charged last Friday on allegations they carried out cyber attacks to interfere in the 2016 USA election if Russians could do the same in America for people connected to money manager Bill Browder, a onetime investor in Russia.

Mainly reading from a prepared statement, Trump said on Tuesday he had complete faith in USA intelligence agencies and accepted their conclusions.

"So certainly as the leader of a country you would have to hold him responsible, yes", President Trump told CBS News in an interview.

In an interview with Jeff Glor on CBS Evening News, Trump said he agreed with USA intelligence officials that Russian Federation meddled in the 2016 presidential election.

During the conference, he refused to confront Putin over Russian interference in the 2016 election, and criticized the special counsel investigation. "I don't see any reason why it would be", Trump said.

"I said the word "would" instead of 'wouldn't, '" Trump told reporters at the White House, more than 24 hours after his appearance with Putin.

"It was important for the President to know what information we've uncovered because he's got to make very important decisions for the country, so he needs to understand what evidence we have of foreign election interference", Rosenstein said. The following day, Trump read a clarification claiming that he had meant to say that Russian Federation interfered, although he ad-libbed that "other people" may have also been involved.

Vladimir Putin Again Insists He Has No Compromising Information on President Trump
Well, Colbert found Mike Pence, Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan and Devin Nunes - also in Putin's pocket. The Russian foreign ministry responded by liking Trump's tweet and then replying, "We agree".

Trump took to Twitter early today to defend the meeting, promising "big results" from better relations with Russian Federation and hitting back at "haters". "I have President Putin, he just said it's not Russian Federation".

Her comments stood in sharp contrast to those of White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who held open the possibility that what Trump called "an incredible offer" is being weighed. Asked on Wednesday if Russian Federation was still targeting the United States, Trump said, "No".

House Intelligence Republicans say they disagreed with Trump's comments about Russian meddling, but they argue that Russia was trying to sow discord into the USA election system, as opposed to electing Trump. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., and Chris Coons, D-Del., will try to force a vote Thursday on a resolution backing the intelligence community's findings that Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 election and must be held accountable.

"We got along well which truly bothered many haters who wanted to see a boxing match. Today, the digital infrastructure that serves this country is literally under attack". His response followed words of alarm last week from National Intelligence Director Dan Coats, who said warning lights about overall cyberthreats to the USA were "blinking red" - much as "blinking red" signals before the 9/11 terror attacks. "I don't think the president can sustain support all by himself". Republican voters' views of Russian Federation have improved dramatically under Trump, and as with numerous president's norm-busting actions, his supporters may well go along with the latest twist and turns, in spite of the initial shock expressed by many GOP elites. Then on Tuesday, Trump backpedaled and said he misspoke.

"I'm interpreting what the president said, I'm not reversing it", Sanders said.

"It could be other people also - there's a lot of people out there", he said.

His comments came the same day that the Justice Department unveiled an indictment against 12 Russian military intelligence officers for their role in hacking Democratic groups during the 2016 campaign.
