Trouble erupts in Paris following France's World Cup win

French military parades for Bastille Day, gets budget boost

Two French police motorcycles have crashed during a demonstration in front of President Emmanuel Macron and other guests at a grandiose Paris parade celebrating Bastille Day.

Jubilant French residents poured out in force on the streets Sunday in celebration of France's World Cup triumph, which returned the champion's trophy to France 20 years after its 1998 win.

Celebrations have turned to chaos in France with riots and looting in Paris as millions of French fans have been celebrating their team's 4-2 victory over Croatia in the World Cup final.

A mistake occurred in the smoke colours produced by the Patrouille de France during the parade in Paris.

PARIS France's military had something extra to celebrate Saturday as it showed off its might for Bastille Day celebrations: a budget boost from President Emmanuel Macron.

Mishaps became a common theme, as, later in the ceremony, a warplane appeared to send out the wrong coloured smoke while forming part of a tricolore in the sky - adding a plume of red to the blue section of the "flag".

Overall however, the event was about celebrating France's security forces.

Goalless Giroud still in French hopes for World Cup final
Two years ago, France lost in the Euro 2016 final at home after beating world champions Germany in the semi-final. The team may not have won the World Cup , but coming out of that side of the bracket is certainly no mean feat.

The pomp-filled Bastille Day event included thousands of soldiers parading down the Champs-Elysees.

One day ahead of the event, Mr Macron announced his military plans for 2019-2025, saying that nearly 300 billion had been earmarked as part of plans to spend 2% of GDP on cumulative defence credit within the next seven years. Previous year the United States president Donald Trump was guest of honour.

In addition to military units marching in the Paris parade, participants included rescue workers who helped French Caribbean territories devastated by hurricanes a year ago.

The motorcyclists were part of a group of drivers from the gendarmerie who were tracing patterns in the plaza as part of a carefully choreographed performance.

Yet, this year, one plane that looked as though its trail should have been blue, instead displayed a red plume. There were supposed to be three planes streaming red, three planes spewing white and three planes shooting blue.

The entry into the World Cup final in Russian Federation brought the country of four million people to a standstill Sunday after officials and the media described the event as the biggest in Croatia's sports history.
