Kevin Anderson vs John Isner, Wimbledon 2018 semi-final

American Isner reaches 1st Grand Slam semifinal at Wimbledon

Isner won the match, and now 14 years on here they both are on Centre Court, competing for a place in the Wimbledon final.

Isner previously won the longest ever Grand Slam singles match against Nicolas Mahut, lasting 11 hours and five minutes over three days in the 2010 Wimbledon first round.

The match set Wimbledon semifinal records for number of games (was 72) as well as duration - the 6 hours, 36 minute match bested the previous mark by 1 hour, 52 minutes.

Isner also broke the record for most aces in a Wimbledon tournament.

Another hectic spring for Astana at Tour de France Stage 4
His absence means Bardet's team is now down to seven riders with 17 more stages to be raced before the Tour's end on July 28. Movistar teammates Alejandro Valverde and Mikel Landa were 15th and 16th (:53), narrowly ahead of Froome.

Not to be outdone, Anderson had 49 aces of his own in the match.

The 32-year-old Anderson will vie for the title on Sunday against the victor of the match between Nadal, the world No. 1, and three-time champion Novak Djokovic.

Isner was ruthless in the key moments and did not waste his opportunities when they came to him in the fourth, wrapping up a 6-7 (5), 7-6 (7), 6-4, 6-3 victory in two hours and 42 minutes to set up a semifinal with Anderson. The only Wimbledon finalist from South Africa was Brian Norton in 1921 while John is trying to become the 12th American Wimbledon finalist in the Open era and the first overall in Majors since Andy Roddick in 2009. Because of the length of the first match, that semifinal will be played with the roof closed. Isner was representing the university of Georgia, while Anderson was at the university of IL. In his final Collegiate season in 2007, John Isner led his team towards the NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championship title, defeating the University of Illinois Fighting Illini 4-0 at home in Georgia. The victor of the match was guaranteed $1.5 million, depending on the outcome of the final.
