Thailand turning cave into museum about soccer team's rescue

Thailand Ministry of Public Health

Officials said they emerged from the cave "healthy" shortly after the last rescues were made, July 10, 2018.

"They are getting forced to do something that no kid has ever done before", Ivan Karadzic, a diver involved with the rescue mission told BBC.

More than 90 divers helped with the rescue as well as many other volunteers.

The optimistic mood was in contrast to the saddened atmosphere at the cave last week, after former Thai Navy SEAL Saman Kunan, 37, died while laying air tanks underground on Thursday.

Worldwide rescue teams had worked around the clock after the boys were discovered by British divers, to try to drain the caves enough to rescue them.

One by one, the dozen teenage soccer team members and their coach were escorted out of the cave, alive. The remaining four boys and their coach were pulled out Tuesday.

Four boys and their 25-year-old football coach "will be extracted on Tuesday".

Narongsak Osatanakorn said Tuesday's rescue operation began at 10.08 a.m. and involves 19 divers.

"Early this morning Harry's father passed away here in Adelaide. after they'd all come out of the cave", said Andrew Pearce, of rescue service MedSTAR in the Australian city, where Harris, also known as Harry, is a specialist.

First images of the Thai boys who were trapped in a cave for more than two weeks were released on Wednesday, showing the soccer team smiling and waving from their hospital beds.

Health officials have also previously said the boys would get a mental health evaluation, to address any problems caused by their ordeal.

Two of the boys are thought to have lung infections, but there are no serious complaints to report.

"The kids are footballers so they have high immune systems", Mr Jesada said.

Four boys and their soccer coach remain in the cave.

Each of the boys, ages 11 to 16 and with no diving experience, was guided out by divers though rocky, muddy and water passages that in places were just a crawl space.

"Hooyah! Mission accomplished", read another, echoing the rallying cry of the Thai navy SEALs involved in the rescue.

He was taken by helicopter and then ambulance to the hospital in Chiang Rai were the first four boys, who were rescued on Sunday, are now being held in quarantine as they undergo tests.
