Republican senators are gaslighting Democrats on Trump’s Supreme Court nominee

Democrats, eager to dig into everything Kavanaugh may have played a role in - or even seen - want every document they can get, a number Senate aides say is likely in the millions.

It appears that if confirmed, Kavanaugh would be the least wealthy justice.

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh incurred tens of thousands of dollars of credit card debt buying baseball tickets over the past decade and at times reported liabilities that could have exceeded the value of his cash accounts and investment assets, according to a review of Kavanaugh's financial disclosures and information provided by the White House.

In 2006, Kavanaugh said he would follow the decision "faithfully" - but the question remains whether that would include a robust interpretation of what "undue burden" means. The vetting process, he said, is "going to be thorough and going to be done right".

Kavanaugh met with key Republican senators on Capitol Hill on Wednesday as Democrats escalated efforts to block his confirmation.

"Tonight's announcement is only a first step", Jones said in Twitter message on Tuesday. "I will be diligent in measuring the record and in undertaking an independent review".

Manchin is one of five Senate Democrats trying to get reelected in November in a state Trump won by double digits.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who described Kavanaugh as a "superb" pick, called on Democrat senators to "put partisanship aside and consider his legal qualifications with the fairness, respect, and seriousness that a Supreme Court nomination ought to command".

Kavanaugh disappointed social conservatives in a 2017 case involving a pregnant teenage immigrant in federal custody who wanted an abortion.

As is tradition, after his meeting Tuesday with McConnell, the nominee will go through Judiciary Committee members before moving onto the broader Senate. Is it any wonder that President Trump chose Kavanaugh from the list of 25? "And I think it's going to be a lovely thing to watch over the next month".

Another Bush staffer had a lot to do with the Kavanaugh choice, Trump White House Counsel Don McGahn.

"This, of course, is another peculiarity of the Trump presidency: blockbuster news has a way of popping out of nowhere and dominating the conversation in ways that no one expected". Earlier this year he voted in favor of a bill that would have banned abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Many conservatives have also praised Trump's selection.

That insider status can help Kavanaugh win over the Washington elite and secure enough Senate votes to avoid an embarrassing loss for Trump. 'Hey everybody, I'm Brett, I'll be your Supreme Court justice tonight.

Stabenow said in a Monday statement that the vacancy "represents a very consequential moment for our country where we can chose to make progress on so many important issues for MI families or we can turn the clock back".

Join Care2 activists asking the Senate to thoroughly evaluate this Supreme Court nominee and hold him accountable for his risky record. Kavanaugh has taken an aggressive view in favor of executive authority. That's something that Paul, who has a strong libertarian streak, has been vocal about opposing.

In a statement Monday night, Heitkamp said the process for selecting Gorsuch was "exhaustive and fair". To Democrats, he's a threat to women's reproductive rights and the Obama health care program.

". In that speech he was praising Chief Justice [William] Rehnquist's dissent in the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision and the subsequent 1992 Casey decision that effectively affirmed this phantom right to abortion", he tells OneNewsNow.

"We have a job to do as members of the Judiciary Committee to dig into his record".

The senator added that "President Trump could nominate George Washington and they would all be up in arms".
