Rangers are aiming to recruit more players in an effort to create a strong and well-balanced squad that can excel on both domestic and European fronts, manager Steven Gerrard has said.

Gerrard has already been active in the transfer market since arriving at Rangers, with nine new faces arriving already.

Steven Gerrard refused to comment on Jake Cooper.

"I don't like to add to it, especially when players belong to other clubs". "I won't add to speculation at all".

When asked about his summer shopping, Gerrard said: "It's hard to put a number on it".

"The board have been superb".

"We're trying to get the right balance and the right blend. So yeah, I'm really happy with the support I've received".

"Sadiq has been at a top club in Roma so he knows what high standards are about". He gives us a different type of player in the forward position, he's full of energy. I'm sure he'll actually do more than this given the importance of the game as he'll obviously have a desire to get off to a bright start and keep the feel-good factor going at the club. "He's mixed it with the best in that league and we believe he will be an important player for us".

The chase for Cooper comes with the Rangers boss confirming that veteran Portugal defender Bruno Alves has had his contract mutually terminated to leave for Parma.
