Donald Trump flies in to a rough reception

President Trump and first lady Melania Trump departed Tuesday for a weeklong trip to Europe on a four-nation tour with stops in Belgium England Scotland and Finland

The president was delayed for nearly an hour when the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels he had been attending overran because he demanded member states increase their contributions faster than originally planned.

There are also plans for protestors to gather close to the United States ambassador's residence in Regent's Park, where Trump and his wife, Melania, will stay overnight on Thursday.

Just before departing for Europe earlier this week, Trump ruffled feathers again by saying that the United Kingdom was in "turmoil", referring to the resignation of two prominent Cabinet ministers protesting Prime Minister May's Brexit policy.

May's government has recently been shaken following at least three resignations of senior members of her cabinet - including Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson and Brexit Minister David Davis, following disagreements on how to exit the EU.

"I've always liked writing amusing songs and he just lends himself to them".

"So I would imagine that's what they will do, but maybe they will take a little bit of a different route".

Asked about his views on the UK's plans for Brexit, Trump said: 'I would say Brexit is Brexit.

Trump's victory in the 2016 presidential election shocked British diplomats in Washington and relations between May, a vicar's daughter, and Trump have been strained at times.

Donald Trump's July visit to the UK will be his first as president of the United States.

But the red carpet treatment is likely to be overshadowed by massive protests planned by Britons opposed to Trump's presence. A YouGov poll on Wednesday showed 77 per cent had an unfavourable opinion of the president and just 50 per cent thought his visit should go ahead. "If a balloon flying over London makes people laugh, I think that's absolutely worth it", she says.

"You know I've been reading a lot on Brexit over the last couple of days and its seems to be turning a little bit differently where they're getting at least partially involved back with the European Union", he said. "I'm very strong on immigration".

Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend more than 100 protests being held across the country against the American President's visit over the weekend.

Trump next heads to Windsor Castle later Friday for tea with the queen, as protesters stage a mass demonstration in London.

One such protest will entail a 19-foot-high orange balloon shaped like Trump as a baby, which London Mayor Sadiq Khan - who's feuded with the president - approved under "the right to peaceful protest".

On Thursday, Trump will travel to Blenheim Palace, the 18th-century stately home where Britain's World War Two leader Winston Churchill was born and spent most of his childhood.

He will spend just one night in the capital before going to Prime Minister Theresa May's country retreat Chequers in Buckinghamshire.
