It is scheduled to ship later this year to "qualified designers and developers", according to the companies, but regular old consumers will have to wait a little while longer to strap on Magic Leap's silver goggles. "This investment was announced as part of an exclusive US wireless carrier relationship with AT&T to expand the future of spatial computing".

The company's technology creates lifelike virtual objects that seamlessly blend with natural objects when viewed through its headsets.

"We've joined with AT&T because we believe in a combined vision of expanding high-speed networks, edge computing, and deep integration with creative content", Rony Abovitz, founder, president and CEO of Magic Leap said in a statement. "In connection with the investment, AT&T Communications CEO John Donovan has observer rights with Magic Leap's board".

Eye tracking and head tracking are both included, as well.

AT&T said that once available to consumers, its customers will be among the first to experience it at select AT&T stores in Atlanta, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco and Los Angeles before rolling out to additional markets.

Magic Leap boasts marquee investors such as Alphabet Inc's Google, Qualcomm, Alibaba, Time Warner's Warner Bros and Singapore government-owned investment firm Temasek Holdings.

So far, Magic Leap has raised over $2 billion to help further its hardware and software pursuits, but we've not seen a product launch or hardware to look over just yet.

The Lightwear goggles use Digital Lightfield technology, which generates digital light at different depths.

Magic Leap One promises to lay virtual objects over the real world in an experience more advanced than other headsets including HoloLens.

The Lightpack, the firm explains, is the "engine" behind the spatial computing platform, with high-powered processing and graphics in a small, portable design. And the controller offers "six degrees of freedom" with a thumb-operated control pad.
