Peter Carrington, last survivor of Winston Churchill’s gov’t, dies at 99
Tributes have been paid to the former foreign secretary Lord Carrington, who has died at the age of 99.
Known for being both refined and personable, Carington served as an agriculture minister in Churchill's post-World War II government.
He took his seat in the House of Lords in 1946 and went on to become the oldest and longest-serving member of parliament's second chamber.
Prime Minister Theresa May's office said his death was "very sad news".

The last surviving member of Sir Winston Churchill's post-war government was remembered as "a lovely man and a great public servant" renowned for his kindness, brilliance and wisdom. "My deep sympathy to his family".
In 1982, he resigned as foreign secretary in Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher's government after Argentina invaded and occupied the Falkland Islands.
In his autobiography Lord Carrington wrote that "despite the impossibility of his behaviour" Mintoff was "a genuine patriot". The disgrace must be purged. Carrington chaired the Lancaster House talks in 1979 which led to to the establishment of an independent Zimbabwe. He also was North Atlantic Treaty Organisation secretary-general in the mid-1980s when there was a clear thawing in relations between Washington and Moscow.
