Ahmed Shehzad: Pakistan batsman tests positive for banned substance

The 26-year-old tested positive for a banned substance in June, but his name has only just been released.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will issue a formal charge sheet "later today" it said in a release, confirming reports in recent days that Shehzad had tested positive for a banned substance.

"Independent Review Board report on doping case has been received by PCB. PCB will issue charge sheet today", the statement read.

The PCB tweeted Shehzad "tested positive for a banned substance" on Tuesday.

In fact, the report was received by PCB on Tuesday.

Pakistan s cricketers have a history of failing tests for performance enhancing drugs.

Once he has received the notice, Shehzad stands provisionally suspended and can not play - or be involved in any capacity - in global matches, and games organised by any national cricket board or its affiliated members. "We should have an answer in a day or two", PCB had tweeted on June 20.

Shehzad lost his Test place following Pakistan's tour to the West Indies in mid-2017 and has not played a one day worldwide since last October.

He was also not part of the one-day global squad which will play a five-match series against Zimbabwe starting Friday.

Shehzad has played 13 tests, 81 ODIs, and 57 Twenty20s for Pakistan, and has centuries in all three formats.

Meanwhile, Ahmed Shehzad had struggled to break into the Pakistan squad in the recent times.

However, Shehzad was part of the Pakistan squad that won the two-match T20I series against Scotland. The Pakistan opener had scored 38 runs in the two matches.
