Steven Gerrard makes Lassana Coulibaly Rangers' eighth signing

He joins the Gers from French top-flight Angers on a season-long loan, subject to worldwide clearance.

The deals for Sadiq and Coulibaly are the eighth and ninth that Gerrard has completed this summer as he has overhauled the Gers squad he inherited last month.

Sadiq will join the likes of Connor Goldson, Jamie Murphy, Allan McGregor, Jon Flanagan and Scott Arfield as new signings at Ibrox, and will give Gerrard a new look team to take into his first managerial combat with.

Sadiq will put pen-to-paper on a season-long loan deal and Coulibaly will follow his lead in signing on the dotted line after agreeing terms with Gerrard's side on the eve of the Liverpool legend's first competitive match in charge.

Umar, 21, scored twice in six Serie A appearances for Roma during the 2015-16 season, but has spent time out on loan with Bologna, Torino and NAC Breda over the last couple of years.

Coulibaly is excited to play under Gerrard but admitted he was not sure if it was a joke or not.

He told Rangers TV: "It was not easy but when my agent said Gerrard is the head coach, I said okay no problem and was happy to come in".

He smiled: "I don't like to say anything about myself but I am a hardworking player who always wants to help the team".

"He asked me if I wanted to join his team, and I said yes, although I was anxious it wasn't actually Gerrard [on the phone]!"
