In response to Hamas arson attacks Israel will block Gaza crossing

The Palestinian Resistance Movement, Hamas, says Israel's closure of Gaza's main trade terminal amounts to a crime against humanity, and called on the global community for immediate intervention.

He said the plan can begin with 5,000 people from Gaza entering Israel to work and noted that there hasn't been much progress in the efforts to release the Israelis who are "missing" or "held captives" in Gaza.

"No exports or marketing of goods will be carried out from the Gaza Strip". "There will be additional steps".

The crossing is Gaza's main entry point for trade. "I will not go into details", he said in parliament.

In a written statement, Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhum denounced the move, calling it "a new crime against humanity added to the black record of the Israeli occupation against our Palestinian people and our people in the Gaza Strip". "Therefore, Hamas calls on the worldwide community to act immediately and prevent this crime and its risky consequences".

The decision comes in response to continued arson terror perpetrated by Gazan terrorists via incendiary kites and balloons sent from Gaza into Israeli territory as well as other attempts at terror attacks, such as firing rockets.

Israel also said it was ending a seasonal expansion of the fishing zone off Gaza, returning it to six nautical miles instead of nine.

A spokesman for Israel's fire service says 750 fires have burned 2,600 hectares, putting the damage at millions of shekels (hundreds of thousands of dollars/euros).

Qatari envoy Mohammed al-Emadi has proposed that Tel Aviv grants the Palestinians in Gaza Strip work permits to end protests at the strip's borders.

The majority were involved in protests and clashes, but others were seeking to breach or damage the border fence.

But Palestinians view the cheap, flying devices to be a tool of resistance against the well-armed Israeli forces stationed behind the fence that have killed at least 136 Palestinians since the beginning of the March of Return.

The Israeli military also confirmed in a statement that the crossing would be closed later on Monday.

Israel, which has fought three wars with Islamist movement Hamas since 2008, strictly controls both crossings.

Following the Palestinian power struggle, Israel imposed a stringent siege on Gaza in 2007 - supported by Egypt under President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi - restricting the movement of people and civilians in and out of the coastal territory, and installing land and sea "buffer zones" in Gaza.

United Nations officials and rights activists have repeatedly called for Israel to lift the blockade against Gaza, citing deteriorating humanitarian conditions.
