Canadian Eugenie Bouchard qualifies for main draw at Wimbledon

Bouchard remains ice cold through Wimbledon qualies

Struggling tennis star Eugenie Bouchard might finally be hitting her stride.

The Canadian won three straight matches at Roehampton to secure a spot in Wimbledon's main draw, just one month after withdrawing from a French Open qualifying match because of an abdominal strain.

Next up for Bouchard is Colombia's Mariana Duque-Marino, who knocked out Richel Hogenkamp of the Netherlands 6-4, 6-1.

A finalist at Wimbledon just four years ago, the 24-year-old from Westmount, Que., was forced into the qualification draw this year because her ranking has slipped to No. 191 in the world.

Eugenie Bouchard is the player that fans either love or hate.

Bouchard faced criticism on social media and from nattering nabob in the media for giving short, terse responses in a post-match interview after her first-round qualifying win, but she was a bit more talkative following Wednesday's triumph.

"I would be proud of myself for going through qualifying. I have a match (Thursday) and that's all I'm anxious about right now".
