Honors even in Japan and Senegal stalemate in Ekaterinburg Arena

Shinji Kagawa Japan Colombia World Cup 19062018

Japan vs Senegal: Keisuke Honda's late goal earned Japan a deserved 2-2 draw against Senegal in Yekaterinburg on Sunday to keep alive both teams' hopes of last-16 qualification from Group H.

All eyes will now be on the other group match later in the evening between Poland and Colombia following this stalemate at the Yekaterinburg Arena.

"The same preparation is necessary for Japan, we have to question everything in the same way", said Cisse, the celebrated captain of Senegal's 2002 squad that reached World Cup quarter- finals under French man Bruo Metsu.

Japan failed to deal with a right-wing cross with Genki Haraguchi nodding the ball straight to Senegal defender Youssouf Sabaly in the box.

Sadio Mane gave Senegal the lead in the 11th minute, deflecting the ball into the net for his first World Cup goal, but Takashi Inui equalized with a well-placed shot from inside the area in the 34th.

Backed by a vocal Japanese following who never stopped singing and with the locals also on their side, Japan were now the better side after a nervous start.

Ten minutes into the second half, the Africans came close to scoring when Mbaye Niang let fly from long range, but the Japanese keeper made a fantastic save to deny him.

Six minutes later, Senegal re-took the lead when a low left-wing cross from Sabaly was met at the back post by Moussa Wague, with the 19-year-old firing the ball into the roof of the net from six-yards out, 2-1.

And it was Senegal who retook the lead five minutes later as Wague met a ball played across the box and coolly sidefooted into the roof of the net for his first global goal.
