Dramatic rescue Father pulls son from burning race car

A dad was there in the nick of time to rescue his son from a fiery crash during a auto race in South Boston, Virginia, over Father's Day weekend.

The NASCAR-sanctioned late-model race was held at the South Boston Speedway on Saturday.

Mike Jones was hoping to secure the lead in the race when a competitor's auto hit his tire, causing his vehicle to spin out of control and bounce off the track walls.

"I didn't have time to be afraid", Dean said, per WDBJ 7. And cameras were rolling as the elder Jones pulled his son from the flaming wreck, just as rescue crews arrived on scene. Jones didn't seem to care much after the race telling RacingNews.co "No one except sweet baby Jesus would have kept me from freeing my son from a burning race auto".

Dean Jones' probation will last through the end of the season.

That the rescue occurred on the Father's Day weekend was not lost on either Jones. In a NASCAR Late Model 100 series event at South Boston track this past weekend, driver Mike Jones learned that first hand when his No. 39 auto got spun into the wall and caught on fire. "Just a dad, helping my son".
