Theresa May calls U.S. child migrant policy "deeply disturbing" and "wrong"

Theresa May: Trump separation of migrant families is 'wrong' | TheHill

Theresa May has finally broken her silence on the child migrant crisis in the United States, branding it as 'wrong'.

British Prime Minister Theresa May on Wednesday, June 21, said images from the United States of migrant children kept in cages were "deeply disturbing" and that she would press President Donald Trump on the issue.

At Prime Minister's Questions, she said: "The pictures of children being held in what appear to be cages are deeply disturbing". Mrs May said President Trump's approach to child migrants was "wrong" and "not something we agree with".

'This is not the United Kingdom's approach.

President Donald Trump will meet Queen Elizabeth II during a visit to Britain next month, the U.S. ambassador in London told Sky News on Wednesday.

The Prime Minister was responding to questions from SNP Westminster leader Ian Blackford who was ejected from the Commons last week in a row over Brexit. He called on the Prime Minister to mark World Refugee Day by ending the UK's practice of indefinite detention in immigration cases - the only country in the European Union to do so.

Since the White House announced a new "zero-tolerance" approach towards immigration in early May, US authorities have taken more than 2,300 children from their parents at the US border.

The Prime Minister, who has been under pressure to condemn the immigration practices adopted in the U.S., said images appearing to show children being held in cages were "deeply disturbing".

Since this is not a state visit, the pair don't necessarily have to meet, but according to Sky News the USA ambassador in London said that Trump will be meeting Her Majesty.

Thousands of children have been separated from parents as part of the zero tolerance policy, which mandates that all asylum seekers who cross the border illegally be prosecuted.
