West Ham sign French defender Diop on five-year contract

Pedro Obiang of West Ham United celebrates after scoring his sides first goal during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United at Wembley Stadium on January 4

The Poland global, 33, moves to London Stadium on a three-year contract, just a day after the Hammers signed defender Issa Diop for £22m.

The 33-year-old, who is in Russian Federation for the World Cup but did not play in Poland's 2-1 defeat by Senegal on Tuesday, is West Ham's second signing in as many days as the club's rebuilding for a first season under Manuel Pellegrini continues apace.

New West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini identified his defence as somewhere the Londoners were not strong enough in, and he has already begun to rectify that with the addition of Ryan Fredericks from Fulham in the full-back area.

Fabianski, who was Swansea's Player of the Year last season, is in Russian Federation for the World Cup but did not feature in Poland's 2-1 defeat by Senegal on Tuesday.

The Hammers had been searching for a replacement for Joe Hart following the end of his loan spell from Premier League champions Manchester City.

West Ham United will put France under-21 defender Issa Diop through a medical ahead of a £21.9 million move, according to Sky Sports.

Diop said: 'I am very happy to sign for such a historic, English club, and I hope to show my best here. I hope to help the team win lots of games and make the fans happy'.

Fabianski is keen to return to the Premier League after Swansea were relegated to the Championship in May and he is likely to provide competition to Adrian for the No.1 jersey. But the goalkeeper kept his cards close to his chest, as he remains focused on the World Cup. "We wish him all the very best out in Russian Federation and look forward to welcoming him upon his return to England later this summer".
