Bucks player Sterling Brown sues Milwaukee over stun-gun arrest
Milwaukee Bucks guard Sterling Brown sued the city of Milwaukee and its police department Tuesday, saying officers' use of a stun gun during his arrest for a parking violation constitutes excessive force and that they targeted him because he is black.
A lawsuit filed Tuesday in federal court says officers could have simply issued a citation instead of "unlawfully discriminating against Mr".
Brown was approached by an officer outside a Walgreens drugstore after illegally parking across two handicap spaces. He was taken to the ground by a group of officers before one tased him on the ground.
Last month, in an interview with the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Brown, whose father was a police officer, recounted the incident, noting that he "gave in so they didn't pull their guns out" and adding, "It's common". Nearly immediately, an officer yelled: "Taser!"
A group of officers discussing the arrest shortly after it happened talked about "trying to protect" themselves from possible backlash over their confrontation with an National Basketball Association player and synchronized "their stories concerning what took place in the parking lot", the lawsuit said. "And, you know, take different procedures in having interactions with African American men". In April 2014, a Milwaukee police officer fired 14 shots and killed Hamilton, who suffered from schizophrenia, after an altercation between the two at a park.

Erik Andrade, one of the responding police officers who is accused of assaulting Milwaukee Bucks guard Sterling Brown, reportedly posted a joke on Facebook about unleashing a similar attack on JR Smith following his gaffe in Game 1 of the 2018 NBA Finals. ". I'm convinced the only way to get this building's attention and the citizens' attention is to file a federal civil rights suit". But additional body camera and squad vehicle videos, obtained by WISN-TV, showed the moments after officers used a stun gun on Brown. "Because he plays for the Bucks, if he makes a [expletive] complaint, it's going to be a [expletive] media firestorm", one said. "And then any little [expletive] thing that goes wrong is going to be "ooh Milwaukee Police Department is all racist" blah blah blah".
"I was just being smart".
"I get mad every time I watch it", Brown told the newspaper.
Brown was never charged with anything.
Eight other officers, according to the Associated Press, were ordered to undergo remedial training in professional communications.
